Liberty Belle
Magazine

As Social Media Editor of Liberty Belle Magazine, I managed the social media feeds for the magazine. This entailed creating posts for three different social media channels including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I used my design skills in Canva to create graphics for each weekly post.

Social Media graphics

In my recent position as Social Media Marketing Editor for Liberty Belle, my main aim was to create brand consistency across the entire social media platforms.  The follow examples highlight how brand consistency was made and developed from the initial brand design.

When deciding on a social media strategy for the year, I suggested a weekly round up of all the articles that week. Not only did this organise our feed but gave consistency throughout scheduling the articles. This ensured we were able to utilise Hootsuite to schedule posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram when our feeds had higher activity and traffic.

I also suggested Motivational Mondays. This proved a success because it also added to the scheduled social media diary and offered a relationship between our readership. Every week a motivational quote is posted on the social media feed, we did this as our target audience is university students aged 18 and above, who are going through the struggle of exams and university deadlines. We hoped that this post would offer motivation to our audience which became a key pillar in our social media strategy.

Here is an example of a newsletter I created for the magazine for new contributors. The purpose of this was to act as a form of internal communications for contributors. This newsletter would update contributors on any news related to the magazine. This example is a mock up of a design I created in Canva however, as seen above this newsletter coincides nicely with the current theme.

Website design

I completely redesigned Liberty Belle website which hosts the magazine's articles. The most recent website update gave the whole magazine a face-lift. The current website design is easier to navigate and since Liberty Belle is an online publication it was important to update the website further.

Within this redesign I used my previous design skills to add interactivity to the website. This not only made the website more aesthetically pleasing however, increased inactivity with the content, decreasing the website's bounce rate.

This update tied in nicely with the overall brand and created the consistency I wanted across the entire magazine.

Initial rebrand

In 2020, we decided to redesign Liberty Belle's social media page to be up to date with the change in narrative of the magazine and enhanced the look of social media feed.

I developed a new logo for the magazine on Canva and, created templates of new posts that I used in a presentation to the other editors in the magazine. Here, I also used inspiration taken from Pinterest and colour palettes to keep the aesthetic consistent throughout the brand and to voice my reasons behind the redesign.

Video content creation

We wanted to optimise IGTV's as they were a growing trend on Instagram. Editors and contributors worked on developing the magazine's IGTV.

We varied the content making it relevant to the specific time of year and the current trends. For example, one video focused on a Halloween makeup-look, which a contributor took part in. I worked with the other Social Media Editor to film and edit the video.

Another example is during the first lockdown, we wanted to stay relevant and communicate with our demographic in the new online world. We created the 'Stay at Home' series that reflected the daily struggles of life in lockdown. I personally edited this IGTV in IMovie using basic graphic overlays and animations created in Procreate.

We also had one of our Editors contribute a makeup tutorial. This created a different multimedia that the readership could engage with, optimising time spent on the feed.
